The most coveted marathon? Certainly the Olympic. The oldest? Boston’s, one of five ‘Majors,’ run since 1897 on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday in April. The last one of the year? The one on New Year’s Eve, traditionally scheduled near Bologna. The marathon has always been every runner’s challenge, but there are some that in addition to the hardness of 42km present an extra goal, that of strangeness.
